Use HangarFox with Claude
Connect your HangarFox logbook to Claude — or another AI app that speaks the Model Context Protocol — and ask it about your flying, check your currency, plan where to go, and log flights by describing them.
Connect it
You need a HangarFox account. The address to connect to is https://hangarfox.com/mcp.
- Claude on the web, desktop or mobile: in Claude, open Settings → Connectors, choose Add custom connector, and enter the address above. Leave the advanced settings empty.
- Claude Code: run claude mcp add --transport http hangarfox https://hangarfox.com/mcp.
- Other apps: add a remote MCP server with the address above. HangarFox signs it in with OAuth, so the app needs to support that.
You're then sent to HangarFox to sign in and approve the app. The approval page says what it will be able to do; untick Add flights to your logbook and correct your own entries to connect read-only.
What you can ask
- “How much night time have I logged in the last 12 months, and in what?”
- “When was I last at Goodwood, and in which aircraft?”
- “Am I current to carry passengers? What do I need to fly before my SEP revalidation?”
- “I've got three hours on Saturday in the Warrior — where could I go that I haven't been?”
- “What's the weather at Sandown?”
- “Log today's flight: G-BFHI, Blackbushe to Goodwood and back, off blocks 10:05, on 12:40, two landings.”
- Share a photo of a page of your paper logbook and ask for it to be added.
Claude also offers ready-made prompts from HangarFox: Log a flight, Digitise a logbook page, Check my currency and Summarise my flying.
What it can and can't do
Reading — always allowed once connected:
- search your logbook, look at an entry in full, and add up totals for any period, aircraft or role;
- your ratings and currency, each rule with its source and whether it's been verified;
- your aircraft, flights you were aboard as a passenger, aerodrome details and weather;
- where you could go and back in the time you have, from your aircraft's cruise speed.
Writing — only if you left that box ticked:
- log one flight at a time as your own entry, labelled Added with Claude in your logbook;
- correct your own entries (Claude asks you before it changes anything);
- put several flights, such as a photographed page, into an import for you to check and commit — nothing counts until you do.
Never: delete anything, see other pilots' logbooks, share flights, post, follow anyone or send email. A flight that matches one already in your logbook isn't added twice, and an app can make at most 100 changes a day.
Times are UTC, as a logbook is kept. Weather, currency and range figures are for planning and not for navigation: you still need an official briefing, NOTAMs and the AIP, and your licence and the CAA are the authority on currency.
Your data
What the app reads goes to the company behind it and is handled under its terms — for Claude, that's Anthropic. HangarFox keeps a list of what each app added or changed, under Settings → Connected apps, for 90 days. See Privacy for the rest.
To disconnect an app, use Disconnect under Settings → Connected apps; it loses access straight away. Changing your password disconnects every app.
